Frequently Ask Questions
Here are some questions we are frequently asked:
Will the puppies be registered?
A: Both parents are registered with the AKC, American Kennel Club. Soon after the litter is born, it too will be registered. It is up to you to name and register your puppy in your name. If you want to include our kennel name, Josarge Kennels in your registered name that is your choice..
Do you have a waiting list?
A: We do have a waiting list. Upon request, you can be put on our list. I keep track of the order in which the calls came and what you are looking for, a red female or a black male, etc. I contact those on the list when we breed and when the pups are born to see if they are still interested.
At what age can the puppies be picked up?
A: We keep the puppies until they are a full 8 weeks of age. It is very important for them to have this time with their litter mates and their mother to learn the dog “socialization
When can I come and see the puppies?
A: You can see the puppies after making arrangements with us .One of my jobs is to make sure that everyone gets a healthy puppy. It is possible for germs to come in on shoes and clothes of people, particularly the parvo virus.
Should I get a male or a female?
A: This is a tough one! It depends on what you plan to do with your puppy, if you have other animals in your home and your life style. I have found that our males are very lay-back, easy going but yet, they protect their properties. Our females are, how shall I say... “busy”. They are the first to see who is at the door or to notice if something is different outside in the yard. They are most protective of their people and are always “on guard”. Both the male and females are “lap-dogs”. You wouldn’t think that of a 75 to 90lb dog but there you have it! Ask anyone who owns a Doberman. They lean on you, literally. If you start to pet our male, Cognac, he will lean his big old head right into your leg. I would say one big difference is if you have nice shrubs that you do not want to turn yellow at the bottom, then, a male is not for you! We bought an old fire hydrant for our yard and they use it! Many people say that if you have a male dog in your home already it is better to get a female and vice-versa. I think it is more an issue of who is the leader of your pack, hopefully, it is you!
What does the cost of the puppy include?
A: At the time you pick up your puppy the tail will be cropped, unless other arrangements were made before the birth of the puppy, the dewclaws will have been removed, the first of a series of shots will have been done and the puppy will have been wormed several times if needed. The ear cropping is optional and there is an additional cost. If you do NOT want your puppies ears cropped, you just let us know.. We will show you how to post the ears, give you written instructions and welcome you back at any time for us to repost them for you. We are available to answer any questions you have regarding the health and training of your puppy.
